A spoon of olive oil on an empty stomach every day, keep the doctor way and will bring you better and longer life.

We are always happy to announce that science has found some new application or benefit for olive oil. We also like it when these benefits are confirmed. A few weeks ago, on “Alimente”, the section of the digital Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, published an article entitled “Why it is so good to take a spoonful of extra olive oil on an empty stomach every day“.

Signed by Patricia Matey, the text reviews the properties that science has discovered in recent years. But, in our opinion, two very interesting ideas appeared.

The first is that we Europeans from Mediterranean countries have increased our life expectancy due to the Mediterranean diet and, within this, due to the consumption of olive oil. Currently, Italians and Spaniards, for example, consume 13 liters of liquid gold per person per year.

The second is that drinking olive oil in the morning, on an empty stomach, every day, is beneficial for health. In fact, the article had the opinions of university professors and experts such as José Ramon Llorente, president of the Spanish Society of Orthomolecular Nutrition.

This researcher says that, if taken on an empty stomach, the oil “reduces gastric acidity (…), favors intestinal transit, improves the absorption of nutrients (calcium, magnesium, zinc and B vitamins), optimizes the work of the liver, gallbladder and pancreas”. And that’s just for the digestive system.

At the cardiovascular level, the oil also “lowers ‘bad’ cholesterol and increases ‘good’ cholesterol, helps reduce abdominal fat” and, through polyphenols, “makes it a powerful antioxidant”. Finally, it “facilitates weight loss (…)” because it has a “satiating effect” and a slight laxative effect.

In addition, the article also interviews Nuria Rosique, professor of nutrition at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, who stresses that these benefits of oil can be spread throughout the day, but that “it is important that consumption is regular” and that, for adults, at least four tablespoons should be taken every day at various meals.

So, although popular tradition already said that oil should be taken from early in the morning, scientific evidence seems to confirm it. So, if you want to live long and well, consume olive oil of superior quality (AOVE) in crude daily. A spoonful a day, on an empty stomach, may change your life.
