Despite the COVID-19 Crisis, we have some reasons for hope. We are happy to announce that early June the Parliament of Catalonia approved a Law aimed at protecting the natural and historical heritage represented by the ancient olive trees of our land. This anti-plundering law not only prohibits the sale of heritage olive trees, but also offers a system of aids and compensations to their owners to make it easier for them to maintain and care for the trees. Despite they can produce exquisite oil, its profitability is not high. We must remember that the lands of the Taula del...

We would like to share an interesting news about three events that will happen in a few days. They are very landmarks in the schedule of those who, like us, love everything related to the culture of olive trees and oil. First of all, we would like to highlight that on November 29, the 9th Millennial Olive Tree Congress will be held in Ulldecona (Tarragona). The program will include valuable conferences and workshops on oil-tourism, the conservation of ancient olive trees, the European cultural routes and the management of agrocultural heritage. Experts from all over Spain and, especially, from the...

As we have already told you, one of the most painful problems nowadays in the Tierras del Ebro region is what we call the plundering of olive trees. It happens when our centennial and millennial olive trees are indiscriminately uprooted and sold to agents around the world so they can use them to better decorate the gardens and properties of rich people, companies or institutions. For years, the “Salvem el Montsià” platform has been denouncing a situation that is considered an irreparable loss for our landscape, our environment and our economic and cultural heritage. Until now, this wealth can be...

We are very happy to announce that the millenary olive trees from the Sénia Territory (to which Godall belongs) have been declared by UNFAO as Important System of World Agricultural Heritage (SIPAM). On December 7, our local newspaper, Mes Ebre (see: https://bit.ly/2FHTryy) reported that this acknowledgment was approved by the GIAHS program of the FAO and its Scientific Advisory Group. The Scientific Advisory Group also congratulated all the people involved in the candidacy and stated that the bidding letter from Ms. Tere Adell (manager of the Senia Territory) was the best presentation letter received. Ralda & Friends, as well as...

In our last post we reported our Summer visit to the Farga del Arión, where some of the oldest olive trees in the world are living and producing oil.  Related to this, today we want to introduce a very interesting initiative that Ralda & Friends is publicly supporting. It is called the Olivos Milenarios project (Millennial Olive Trees) (www.aceiteolivosmilenarios.com), gathering all the oils made from olive trees aged 1.000 years or more within the Sénia Territory. In Spain, where the regions of Valencia, Catalonia and Aragon meet, you can find the Sénia Territory. There, between the Sénia River and the...
